Back 4 Blood’s success is expected. Warner Bros. Games reported in early 2022 that Back 4 Blood had over 10 million players and was the best-selling console new IP of 2021, according to NPD data. After Turtle Rock Studio moved on to their next project, the game received three expansions.
Gotham Knights, however, never had a sales press release. It was second on NPD Charts in October and ninth in November. Wccftech gave Warner Bros. Montréal’s first game since 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins a 7.5, noting its poor PC performance at launch.
Stuttering was a major issue while using the grappling hook or Batcycle to go fast across the city on PC.
On strong gear with an RTX 3090 GPU and an i7 12700KF CPU, the gameplay was far from seamless even with DLSS (2.0) set to Performance Mode and ray tracing turned off. You cannot switch on lighting, shadows, or reflections. DLSS in Ultra Performance mode (at 4K, rendering from 720p) made ray tracing worse.
Even without ray tracing, Unreal Engine 4’s graphics are impressive, but it’s frustrating that such a configuration would struggle.
Gotham Knights now works nicely on PC after the devs made several performance adjustments. Heroic Assault, a four-player cooperative mode, was added a month later.
In other Warner Bros. Games news, Player First Games will close the open beta of 2v2 platform fighting game MultiVersus for several months to enhance it before launch. After the delay from late May 2023 to February 2024, it’ll return early following year.
