The 2005 survival-horror classic Resident Evil 4 is the latest survival-horror game to be remade by Capcom. Based on the newest edition of the Japanese developer’s in-house RE Engine technology, it showcases the finest of its visuals, gameplay, and other features. Nevertheless, is it the definitive RE4 experience?
In addition to its critically praised storyline, the original game also had an arcade mode known as Mercenaries. It has since been featured in later Resident Evil games.
Does this apply to this most recent episode as well? Time to discover.
Capcom has confirmed that the classic game mode would be a part of the Resident Evil 4 remake, which was first seen in the “Third Trailer.” Nevertheless, it will not be a part of the game once release. The team appears to have want to concentrate on the game’s campaign mode before anything else. Hence, Mercenaries will be added to the game as post-launch DLC.
This may disappoint many fans, as the mode was included by default in the original game. But, Capcom plans to make up for it by making the free update broadly accessible to all owners.
The release date of the Mercenaries mode is unknown, but at least gamers have the tale to complete. Due to the variety of mysteries to uncover and side objectives to finish, completionists may become immersed in the campaign before the arcade action begins.
Does Resident Evil 4 remake have Mercenaries mode?
As an arcade minigame, players compete against the clock and waves of adversaries to advance through a level. In the Mercenaries mode, players may earn points by eliminating enemies, ranging from ordinary foes to story-related monsters. But, they must accomplish so within the allotted time while competing for the greatest points.
The latter is accomplished by stacking up consecutive kills to achieve combinations. The original game included many playable characters, including Leon Kennedy, Ada Wong, the key antagonist Jack Krauser, and the legendary Umbrella soldier with the codename Hunk. Each has its own armory of weapons and attacks to use against enemies.
This delay may not be a terrible thing for the Mercenaries mode, as unlocking it in the original 2005 game required completing the narrative mode. Given how authentic the remake of Resident Evil 4 is in so many ways, the same might be said here. Yet, it also goes against the grain in other areas by introducing changed settings and new mechanics.
Similarly, the Mercenaries mode in the previous installment of the series, Resident Evil Village, enabled players to acquire new weapons and alter their loadout. It remains to be seen if such adjustments to the quality of life are implemented, or if Cpacom prefers a more conventional approach.
